Anti-Deforestation Policy
Plantations International commits to zero deforestation: no clearing of primary forests, high conservation value areas or high carbon stock forests, backed by transparency, audits and remediation.
Commitment to Sustainability and Accountability
Plantations International recognises that forests support ecological balance, biodiversity and climate-change mitigation. As a steward of land in the countries where it operates, the company commits to sustainability and accountability in all its operations.
This policy aims to ensure that the company's activities support environmental health, social equity and economic viability for current and future generations.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is central to the business. The company takes a holistic approach that weighs environmental, social and economic factors in its decisions.
- Environmental stewardship: prioritising the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity. The company has a strict policy against clearing primary forests or any high conservation value (HCV) area, and commits to reducing its carbon footprint, managing waste responsibly and using renewable energy where possible.
- Social responsibility: improving local livelihoods, respecting indigenous rights and ensuring fair labour practices. Community engagement and participation are fundamental to operational planning.
- Economic viability: pursuing economically viable practices, including investment in sustainable agriculture with long-term benefits, stable employment, and a contribution to economic development in Thailand and Malaysia.
Our Anti-Deforestation Policy
Deforestation threatens biodiversity, accelerates climate change and disrupts livelihoods. Plantations International makes five commitments.
- No deforestation practices: zero deforestation. No clearing of primary forests, HCV areas or high carbon stock forests. Development is limited to areas that are already degraded, with regenerative practices to restore ecological balance.
- Sustainable land use: land practices that protect soil health, conserve water and support biodiversity. Plantation designs include buffer zones, preserve natural habitats and use integrated pest management to reduce chemical use.
- Transparency and traceability: a transparent supply chain "from seed to shelf", with documentation and monitoring to ensure compliance. The company welcomes third-party audits and stakeholder scrutiny.
- Collaboration for conservation: partnerships with local communities, NGOs, government bodies and other stakeholders on forest conservation and restoration.
- Continuous improvement: ongoing improvement, keeping pace with scientific research and adapting strategies to new information and technology.
Accountability and Enforcement
Plantations International operates a strict accountability framework with four elements.
- Internal monitoring and compliance: an internal team monitors compliance, conducts regular audits and works with all departments.
- Stakeholder engagement: open engagement with communities, customers and environmental groups, and an invitation to give feedback.
- Reporting and disclosure: regular public reporting on the company's website on sustainability performance, including anti-deforestation progress.
- Remediation and improvement: where non-compliance is identified, immediate corrective action, remediation and root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
