Information Collection and Use

Plantations International is the sole owner of the information collected on its websites. Information is collected at several points, and under the GDPR personal data is collected strictly on an opt-in basis.

Registration

You may need to complete a registration form giving contact details such as your name and email address. These are used to contact you about services you have expressed interest in.

Demographic information (such as location and gender) and unique identifiers (such as a username and password) are optional but encouraged, as they allow a more personalised experience. This data is also collected on an opt-in basis.

Plantations International Order

Order or registration forms may request contact information (name, email and shipping address) and financial information (credit card number and expiry date). This information is used for billing, for fulfilling your order, and for contacting you if there is a problem processing it. It is collected on an opt-in basis.

Plantations International Profile

Information from cookies, log files, clear GIFs and third parties may be used to build a profile of your viewing preferences. A profile may be linked to personally identifiable information (PII) so that the company can provide offers, improve site content, tailor your visits and direct its marketing.

Your profile will never be shared with any third parties.

Cookies

A cookie is a piece of data stored on your device. The company states that its use of cookies is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information on the site.

Both session cookies (which end when you close your browser) and persistent cookies (which are stored for longer periods) are used. Persistent cookies can be removed by following your browser's help instructions.

Camera and Photos

Services in the Plantation Viewing Module (PVM) mobile app require access to your device's camera and photos. Uploading from your camera roll requires this access.

Plantations International Log Files

Standard log data is collected, including IP addresses, browser type, internet service provider, referring and exit pages, platform type, date and time stamps, and click counts. It is used to analyse trends, administer the site, track movement in aggregate and gather broad demographic information.

IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information. An in-house tracking utility is also used to analyse log files.

Communications from the Site

New opt-in members receive a welcome email to verify their credentials. Established members may receive information about products, services, deals and newsletters, with an option to opt out.

Plantations International Newsletter

Newsletter subscribers provide their name and email address. A method of opting out is provided.

Plantations International Service Announcements

Strictly service-related notices, such as a temporary suspension of service, may be sent to you. These are not promotional. You generally cannot opt out of them, although you may deactivate your account.

Plantations International Customer Service

You may be contacted by email or phone about your account, in line with your stated preferences.

Plantations International Privacy Disclaimer

Personal information may be disclosed when required by law, where the company has a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to comply with judicial proceedings, court orders or other legal process.

We Do Not Share Personal Information with Third Parties

The company uses an outside shipping company and a credit card processor. These companies do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for secondary purposes.

Plantations International Service Providers

Third-party partners may receive names or contact details needed to deliver services you sign up for. These partners may use personally identifiable information only for that purpose.

Business Transitions

In the event of a merger, acquisition or asset sale, personal information will in most cases transfer as a business asset. You will be notified by email and by a prominent notice on the website for 30 days before any change of ownership or control. If the use of your information changes, you will be given a choice.

Choice and Opt-out

You may opt out of the use of your information for purposes unrelated to the site, such as marketing, and still purchase products. To opt out of the newsletter or promotional communications, contact the data protection officer.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Plantations International states that it strictly adheres to all EU GDPR privacy regulations. Further information is available at eugdpr.org.

Security

Your information is protected, and access is restricted to employees who need it to perform their roles. Employees must use password-protected screen savers and are briefed on security and privacy quarterly and whenever policies change. Servers storing personally identifiable information are kept in a secure, locked environment.

Supplementation of Information

Information you provide may be supplemented with data from third-party sources in order to fulfil the company's obligations to you.

Credit Check

To assess eligibility for a credit card, the company may use your name and Social Security number to request a credit report. The report is destroyed once creditworthiness has been determined.

Purchasing History

Your purchasing habits may be combined with similar data from partners to build personalised profiles.

Enhancement of Marketing Profile

Third-party marketing data may be purchased and added to your record to better target advertising. This data is tied to personally identifiable information.

Correcting, Updating, Deleting or Deactivating Personal Information

You can correct, update, delete or deactivate your personally identifiable information by contacting a Customer Support Department. Updates can cover items such as your postcode, phone number, email address and postal address.

Notification of Changes

Changes to this policy are posted on the privacy statement, the homepage and other appropriate locations.

If the way existing personal information is used changes, you will be notified by email and given a choice. Users who have opted out of all communications or deactivated their accounts will not be contacted, and their data will not be used in new ways.

Material changes that do not affect stored data are announced by a prominent notice on the website, and some may also be emailed to opted-in users.
